EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Timeless Teachings in a Changing World

I have a passion for learning and teaching science, technology, engineering, and math. I am a proud Hokie, member of Virginia Tech’s class of 2008; and Marymount University Alumni. I have a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education. In my younger years I was the student who loved participating in science projects, looked forward to math class, and loved to build anything! This inspired me to have an interest in studying Pre-med in college. While in college I worked at Blacksburg Child Development Center, where I gained years of experience with infants and younger children. Once I graduated I taught for 5 years in Arlington County Public Schools. While teaching I also launched P&E Babysitting, which is now a successful babysitting/nanny referral company.

Seeing children enjoy educational activities is what inspires me. Math and Science are two subjects that children lose interest in early in life. I believe that the best teachers are those who create unique lessons that are engaging, fun, and educational. At STEM Preschool it is all about the child’s experience. We want to ensure your child enjoys learning to maintain a future interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

I look forward to providing your family with the best quality childcare. I always welcome questions and comments. Please feel free to contact me at any time!

BRITTANEY JOHNSON

 DIRECTOR

Hello!
I am extremely excited to be the new Director at STEM for the 2019-2020 school year!  I have been teaching at STEM for the past 3 years, both as the 1-2 year old teacher and the 2-3 year old teacher. I have such a passion for children and watching them grow and flourish into their new potential and I am thrilled to be able to influence this growth, from the other side.

I was born in Washington D.C. and was raised in Northern Virginia.  I am a proud Monarch, graduating from Old Dominion University in 2013, where I received a Bachelor's degree in
Psychology and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.  I later attended Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Florida, where I received a Juris Doctor, in 2016.  I previously have worked at Old Dominion University's Child Development Center as a Lead Assistant, as well as, provided individual assistance to the students at that center.

KAREN MARDENTE

 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

In 2004, I began my teaching career at the Cub Run Elementary School in Fairfax County, Va.  I was a senior teacher and classroom lead teacher in the highly acclaimed Preschool Autism Classroom (PAC) program. I was charged with organizing, developing, and implementing a flexible curriculum and learning plan for autistic children and children that struggled with emotional disabilities such as anger management, social skills, relaxation skills, and functional deficiencies.

I attribute my success to practicing good teamwork and maintaining good effective and personable communications between varied stakeholders including concerned parents, school officials, and the individual children themselves.  After 13 years at Cub Run, it’s a pleasure to join STEM Preschool as your Assistant Director. I am a native of Virginia and graduated from Prince George’s Community College with an associates degree in Graphic Arts.  I am a mom to Ananda and Esteban, and wife to John.
I am an Arlington native and attended Marymount University. I am of Puerto Rican descent and speak fluent Spanish.  I have been happily married for 20 years and I am a mother of 2. I previously worked with Arlington County Parks/Recreation and Arlington Public Schools. My childcare resume includes Director of the Arlington Mill Preschool program and supervisor for several summer camps. Throughout that time I had a wide range of involvement with children from age 3 to 18. I have an accumulation of over 14 years’ experience.  My passion is working with preschoolers! The STEM students and families will have the privilege of enjoying my bubbly, caring and creative leadership. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the STEM Team and look forward to getting to know all of our STEM preschoolers and families.
